You will start the tour by visiting the Citadel of Qaitbay, which stands on one of the coasts of the Mediterranean Sea in Alexandria. Initially, it grounds next to the ancient lighthouse, one of the World’s Seven Wonders. It was built by Sultan Qaitbay during the 14th century to defend Alexandria from the advances of the Ottoman Empire. Historians believe Qaitbay had built this fortress on the Alexandria Lighthouse – one of the World’s Seven Wonders. These historians affirm that the Alexandria Lighthouse exited on the same site. They used the remaining parts of the lighthouse itself to build this citadel. (Duration 1 hour)
Then you will head to the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa, which were originally built by the Romans for their pagan dead, but later became a burial site for early Christians. The site features a series of tombs and chambers, decorated with beautiful sculptures, frescoes, and carvings. You will explore the winding passageways and admire the unique blend of Roman, Egyptian, and Greek architectural styles. The Catacombs of Kom El-Shoqafa offer a fascinating glimpse into the rich cultural history of Alexandria and the ancient world. (Duration 1 hour)
Then you will visit the Jewelry Museum, which displays the collectibles of the Egyptian royal family, founded by Muhammad Ali Pasha in 1805 and continued to rule for 150 years, until 1952. (Duration 1 hour)
Your next stop will be at the Bibliotheca of Alexandria, a commemoration of the Library of Alexandria, once one of the largest libraries worldwide, which was lost in antiquity. The library is a cylindrical building designed by the Norwegian architecture company Snøhetta, opened in 2002 with space for some eight million books on seven cascading levels, four museums, a planetarium, several galleries, and an enormous reading room. (Duration 1 hour)
Take a break and enjoy a gourmet lunch at one of the top rated restaurants in Alexandria
Your final stop will be at the Roman Amphitheater, the theater, of which only the foundations are preserved, was an enormous structure, rising to approximately 45 meters and capable of holding up to 20,000 spectators. It was a very important discovery in the 20th century and was proven that it was built in the 4th A.D century and was used up until the 7th-century passing by the Roman, Byzantine, and Islamic eras.
