Abu Simbel Temple is one of the most impressive and iconic temples in Egypt.

It was built by Ramesses II in the 13th century BC, and is dedicated to the gods Amun, Ptah, and Hathor.

The temple is located in the Village of Abu Simbel, about 230 km (140 mi) southwest of Aswan.

The temple is carved out of the mountainside and is famous for its four colossal statues of Ramesses II.

The statues are each about 20 meters (66 ft) tall and are one of the most recognizable images of Egypt.

The temple is also home to a number of other impressive reliefs and inscriptions.

Head to Abu Simple Twin Temples. Construction of the temple complex started in approximately 1264 BC and lasted for about 20 years, until 1244 BC. It was known as the "Temple of Ramesses, beloved by Amun. It had long been forgotten, and covered by the desert sands, except for the top heads of the huge statues in front of their entrances. It wasn’t before 1909 that the sand was finally cleared away, and these twin temples have become the most famous site in Egypt's south. You will spend an interesting 3 hours learning about the history of this of kind monument. (Duration 3 hours)
